Bankers colluded with a fraud syndicate to open an account, and the price was revealed for the first time. Is it as cheap as the lawyer involved?
Facing the temptation of money, some professionals choose to cooperate with fraud groups, but the reward may not be as much as outsiders imagine.

Where is the morality? In the past, many enviable professions have begun to collude with fraud groups to make quick money in recent years, including many bank employees and judicial officers. The first case of bank clerk collusion in money laundering was previously detected. After careful investigation, it was found that the "commission" of each bank clerk's fraud was only NT$50,000, so they were willing to commit crimes regardless of their duties in the financial industry.
Releasing the head account for profit
In 2023, the Beijing Criminal Investigation Bureau uncovered the first case of bank clerk involvement in money laundering. In the case, a China Trust clerk surnamed Zhu, under the instructions of the fraud group, increased the withdrawal amount from the head account from 500,000 yuan to 10 million yuan in the system, making it easier for riders to use the head account to transfer fraudulently stolen money externally.
The prosecutors discovered that this fraud group cooperated with overseas computer rooms to lure people to invest in stocks through investment groups such as "Eva Gold Medal School" and "Taiwan Stock Fat Uncle" on the Internet. The total number of victims exceeded 300 people, and the illegal gains exceeded NT$200 million. The stolen money was also converted into USDT for concealment.
The fraud syndicate is very cunning, especially luring bank employees with huge profits. For example, the Chinese trust banker who has been arrested, a female banker surnamed Zhu, was paid 50,000 yuan per account without the permission of her superiors to help the fraud syndicate increase the upper limit of withdrawals from the head account to 10 million yuan, and opened a foreign currency account to help remit the stolen money overseas. The banker surnamed Zhu handled 18 accounts and made a profit of nearly one million yuan.
The bank may be hiding "more than one mole"
In 2024, prosecutors also discovered in Taoyuan that Xu, the deputy manager of the First Bank, was suspected of helping to open accounts for the head accounts of the fraud group and launder money when he was working at the Yilan branch of the First Bank. Five First Bank employees, including the deputy manager surnamed Xu, were brought in for questioning from the Yilan Branch of the First Bank and the Dadaocheng Branch of the North City. Prosecutors are currently continuing to investigate whether there are a large number of insiders within the bank who have formed up-and-down organizations to work for the fraud group.
50,000! Lawyers involved in fraud also have the same price
It was previously revealed that a team of lawyers colluded with fraud to leak secrets. Last year, well-known lawyer Zheng Hongwei, along with other lawyers, an assistant named Lin, and a rational accountant who assisted in money laundering, a total of 18 people were prosecuted for organized crime violations, money laundering, and leaking secrets. Yesterday (6/3), the Taipei District Prosecutor's Office believed that four other lawyers were involved in the case, and once again divided its troops into nine groups to search the offices and homes of four lawyers including Wang Congjun, Huang Yujia, Hu Shuyu, and Zhang Jiaren. In the evening, they again interviewed the four lawyers and six defendants including Zheng Hongwei.
The prosecutor pointed out that after a dozen lawyers headed by Zheng Hongwei were suspected of assisting the riders of the fraud group and were arrested, they took advantage of the opportunity to accompany the investigation and pledge in court to take pictures of the prosecutor's investigation records and pledge documents, and also monitored whether the riders had "offered money online" on behalf of the fraud group, endangering the core fraud members.
Zheng Hongwei knew the truth and invited a lawyer who was a former classmate of National Chengchi University to join in the collusion. He received about NT$50,000 in remuneration for each time he worked for the fraud group.
Informed sources in the legal profession told the district that there are currently more and more new generation lawyers in Taiwan. If it were not for the "second generation of lawyers", it would be difficult for them to increase their income in just a few years. Lawyers are no longer the three golden lawyers in the past. It is no wonder that many lawyers know the law and break the law, and help fraud groups to share the pie. But people familiar with the matter also lamented that it was not worth selling out their professional conscience for 50,000 yuan.
